Conference Interpreter and Translator

Intercultural communication is becoming ever more important in a globalized world. In order to take advantage of the benefits of the international market, businesses and individuals need professionals with a deep understanding of both source and target language to serve as interpreters during meetings and conferences or translate their documents. I can interpret for your events and translate your documents with an efficient turnaround from French or Spanish into English.

Experience:
Interpretation
I have worked as a conference interpreter at many events, including the 2003 European Social Forum in St. Denis France, and several on-campus events at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Among these events were a forum held by the Israeli and Palestinian Bereaved Families for Peace and an immigration policy conference featuring Mexican congresswoman Ruth Hernandez. I have also worked as a volunteer medical interpreter at the Rotacare free clinic in Monterey, California. I have solid experience working both in simultaneous and consecutive modes, as well as with portable equipment.

Translating
I have translated for various companies and NGOs in the United States and in France. While working at a translation bureau in Paris, I focused on telecommunications, political and legal documents for clients that included France Telecom and the Centre for European Policy Studies. I have experience in project management and have also served as a cultural and linguistic advisor for the French subtitling of American films and television, including Finding Forrester, The Animal and The Young and the Restless.

I am currently a Masters Degree candidate in conference interpretation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. I studied French and Spanish at the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, VA and spent my junior year abroad at the Université de Paris VII. After receiving my B.A. I lived in Granada, Spain for six months where I studied at the Centro de Lenguas Modernas at the Universidad de Granada. Before matriculating at the Monterey Institute, I lived in Paris for one year, teaching English in a high school in Antony, a southern suburb of the capital, and working as a freelance translator and journalist.
